Summary: Andy comes to Linda´s house after she walked out on him because of his reaction when she confronted him about Nina.
„And then I told Nina…“ Andy drowned on and on and Linda felt more and more irritated. Of course, she had told Andy to look after Nina but she hadn´t thought that Nina would be all he would think or talk about for the rest of the evening.
Linda couldn´t believe how much it hurt to hear Andy telling her that she would have to cope with his friendship with Nina. “Goodnight Andy.” She felt his gaze in her back when she walked towards the door, slowly to give him the chance to run after her, to apologize to her, to beg her to stay but nothing like that happened. Linda felt tears dwell in her eyes when the door fell shut behind her and she made no effort to stop the flow.
Linda looked up when the doorbell rang. It was late, almost midnight and it had been more than three hours since she had walked out of Andy Brown´s house. For a moment she actually considered to just let him ring but then she got up all the same and walked over to the front- door, opening it. She avoided to look at Andy when he walked past her and closed the door again, then turned around to face him. For a moment Andy just looked at her, then he extended his hand, waiting for her to take it and Linda sighed. “Andy, it´s not that easy. You really hurt me-“ “Because I said I wanted to help Nina with her divorce?” He looked at her incredulously and Linda shook her head exasperatedly. “No, not because of that- because I asked you if you cared about my feelings and you said you didn´t.” She brushed past him and walked back into the living- room, sitting down on the sofa again. Andy followed her and tentatively sank down on a comforter opposite her. “Look, I´m really sorry- is there anything I can do to make it up to you again?” Linda didn´t know what to say to him, she loved him so much and there was nothing she wanted more than for him to pull her close and hold her and kiss her and tell her that everything would be all right but she couldn´t give in just like that, nothing would change if she did. “Ok- it´s really not that simple, is it?” “No.” Linda finally looked up, trying to hold back her tears. “Andy, I-“ She drew a deep breath, wondering how much she could give away and when she looked into Andy´s determined face she decided to tell him the truth. “Andy, I love you.” He stared at her, obviously lost for words and Linda didn´t give him time to recover but just kept talking. “Yes, I really do- I didn´t meant for it to happen but it did- and you were the reason for it, you and your roses and balloons and your promises. It´s just not fair, I fought so hard to keep up that wall and you simply pulled it down and now I´m lost and defenceless and you push me away all the time.” Her voice sounded desperate and she got up, walking over to the fireplace away from Andy. She stared into the flames, her eyes watering, rubbing her arms. She felt cold and lonely despite the warmth of the fire and the presence of the man in the room. After what seemed like an eternity Linda heard Andy step up behind her, the warmth of his body enveloping her senses. Andy wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his head on her shoulder, sighing deeply. “Linda, I didn´t mean to hurt you and I´m sorry I said those things, I didn´t mean it that way- it´s just, you hurt me too, you know…” Linda turned her head. “What do you mean?” “I went through so much to be with you- first I had to deal with the rejection, then I learned that you´re HIV- positive, then I had to get through the trouble with Delia and although I know that being with you was worth it all it hurts that you don´t seem to trust me- I mean, if I wanted to be with Nina I could have made her leave her husband ages ago, she was as unhappy when I met her as she is now. But I don´t want Nina, I want you- and even if I help her as much as I can at the moment, the only woman I´m interested in is you.” Linda relaxed into Andy´s arms, leaning her head back against his shoulder. “I know- I´m sorry I acted so childish, I´m just so afraid to loose you, I love you so much.” “I love you, too, Linda Abbot- and now come home with me, I can´t leave Delia alone over night.” Linda turned into his arms and closed her eyes as his lips covered hers, his grip around her waist tightening.
